CR Power Rankings

As requested by you, the reader, we present the latest attempt at CR Power Rankings. There are some new names, some old names, and some people that should probably just move on past their glory days. These rankings are completely scientific, so feel free to treat them as such. Without further ado, on to stroking egos:

National Power Rankings:

1) Michael Davidson: Please note that potential candidates to replace Chairman Gourley are gunning for Davidson's approval, not Gourley's.
2) Amanda Hydro: Lay the blame for the past two years at her feet, as she is effectively playing Chairman at this point.
3) Frank Luna: Has everyone waiting to see if he jumps into the race. CPAC fast approaches, so time is of the essence.
4) John Plecnik: His name is here simply for ego stroking purposes. If we were being honest, he wouldn't even smell such a list.
5) Charlie Smith: Mr. Smith has the floor, certainly, but will he take advantage of it or continue backroom dealing?
6) Brian Siler: My humble attempt to suckle at the teet of power.
7) Derek Hall: He may not necessarily ask for importance, but everyone wants his approval just as much as Davidson's.
8) Paul Gourley: Even though he has been effectively forced out of the day-to-day, he may just pop up at the ACU as a comeback of sorts.
9) Mason Harrison: Unless he makes a pledge of support soon, his time will be in high demand come CPAC-time.
10) Lindy Dinklage: Not in the employ of the CRNC any longer, but meddling has always been a favorite pastime.
11) Blake Harris: Moved up the hierarchy of advisors this cycle, but did he forsake what got him there?
12) Michael Miltenberger: Unmistakably making the rounds with Mr. Smith, and has probably landed himself on the ticket. Did he do anything substantive to deserve it though?
13) Brent Ludeman: Found the sledding tough yet again in his second solo go-round.
14) Ryan Bilodeau: Has a network of connections that rivals most state chairman, let alone any rank and file College Republican.
15) Nick Miccarelli: Making the rounds with as well; how high will he be on the ticket?

State Chairman Candidate Rankings:
1) Steve Japinga: Election is a sure thing for him, but how long will the coat tails be in Michigan?
2) Morgan Wilkins: Running the race on her own terms, and most definitely defining the debate in Kentucky.
3) Sean Matthew: Almost seems assured of victory, and Pennsylvania is always a player nationally.
4) Chris Stark: Will he remain unopposed in Jersey, and can he continue Luna's cleanup job of the past year?
5) Erin Karriker: Out of state players are trying to knock him off, but are they a nuisance or a threat?

Power on the wane:
1) Nate Walton: Maine Fest is all he has going it seems.
2) Sarah Armstrong: We will believe it when we see it, but word on the street has Connecticut slipping from her grasp come springtime.
3) Erin McTiernan: New York is always volatile, and we hear plenty of unrest with the way she has (or hasn't) run the state fed.
4) Paul Gourley: Go ahead and add the "former" to his Chairman title.
5) Dan Schuberth: Rumors of a late jump into the national race have all but disappeared.

Ones to watch:
1) Justin Jordan: Who knows what he will say or do next, but we will be watching for sure.
2) Frank Luna/Brian Siler: Will they or won't they? Time will tell, but time they do not have.
3) Ryan Bilodeau: Could be part of the new crop of state chairs, but he has plenty of influence regardless.
4) Michael Davidson: Upcoming consortium in California is last shot to impress before CPAC, and a non-endorsement is as good as a death knell for any opposition to Smith.
5) Presidential candidates: Who gives money, and to whom, will be an interesting saga indeed.

you clearly dont know what you're talking about

i think within the next two weeks these power rankings will be out of date and we'll be seeing some new names on the list.

Props on doing the list though. I agree with most of it.

Speaking of Michigan. Has anyone been watching Dan Carlson?

Great Job RSR on the ranking. Accurate and a lot of fun to read!

Anonymous said...

You really don't know what you are talking about. If Siler is so powerful how come he refused Field reps and Ohio lost so many races?

Also, Blake Harris is a terrorist

Keithocracy!!

Anonymous said...

LOL, that is right Gates gets some points for having a Keithocracy.

Walton gave/loaned $2500 to his state fed to boost recruitment. None of the other state chairs you've mentioned have done that or anything close.

If they have, if I'm wrong, let that person's name be known.

Anonymous said...

RSR,
What does State Chairman Candidate Rankings mean? Does it mean their likelihood of winning?

Anonymous said...

Our national board has a responsibility to safeguard the CRNC's operations, that's why we have a "board of directors." Being on the board of directors entails a duty. And yet these state chairs are doing... what, exactly, to help fight off the foreboding cashflow crunch that we face?

Smith has plans to pilfer the CRNC's bank account and give cash to failing, undermotivated state chairs who are too lazy to ask donors for money. What a joke

If Charlie Smith becomes the next national chairman, we're going chapter 7. I hope they have some good bankruptcy attorneys in Colorado.

We're gonna spend the next four years trying to put together venture capital to rebuild a new national committee.

You guys are idiots. I'm not in all this CRNC drama but from just observing and asking questions, I'd have to say that if the CRNC once to return to a thriving organization that they must go with Charlie. He has the professional, common sense so desperately needed. He will not fail.

Smith has no plans to fix the financial crunch, meaning his office will be useless by the time he leaves. You must see that. We will be back to the days of the 1970s-80s when we were regarded as mere puppets, puppets without teeth in Washington DC.

Anonymous said...

Try selling your donors on a plan to cut back the field program 'so that we don't go bankrupt.' See how many donations you get with that. See the point?

It's a self sustaining free fall.

Either we fix it or we are dead.

Smith will revive the CRNC, its no doubt. He is already appealing to both sides of CR politics.

I particularly like the "power on the wane"...how true it is. Armstrong and McTiernan, though different in views, are about to have their states taken away by the opposite (est. to opp., opp. to est.)

Anonymous said...

McTiernan is gonna be fine if she runs for re-election like her letter hinted at. Armstrong has enough control of her state that it won't switch to opp. or do you know something about this supposed candidate that I don't?

Anonymous said...

McTiernan will win, but Sarah's pick will not. I know for a fact.

Anonymous said...

does Armstrong even have a pick or is there just the rumored opposition candidate?

Anyone have any info about the opposition candidate?

Anonymous said...

Smith brings both sides together. Smith heals the wounds. Smith unites the CRNC. Smith can unite the whole world and it still won't bring us from the brink of financial disaster. What are his qualifications to run a multi-million dollar non-profit corporation?

Anonymous said...

If would be great to know the CT opposition candidate. A lot of smack is being talked about how it is going to be taken over. How and who?

Smith's qualifications? I don't know he is a graduating college student just like every other national chair.

Anonymous said...

Smith a uniter? Was he uniting CRs when he made that pre-pubescent attack on Leadership Insitute?

Anonymous said...

Real Reform's platform calls for corporate welfare to help state chairs who have no money. Charlie Smith, Brian Siler, they're the same person. They have abandoned conservative values out of political expediency.

Anonymous said...

Marxist payments to failing state feds. Just set the bar low.

Anonymous said...

Most of the smack is coming from people that don't know the person running. Their not gonna be solid opp. it's just being perceived that way since the person running has a different method on how the state should be run.

I know you should be hearing something within the next week or so from CT about a candidate emerging.

wow..from what I've heard, NC's Grinstead should be up in the state chairman candidate rankings. Thompson's may support Karriker, but the rest of the state officers and a majority of chapter chairs support Grinstead. He also runs the largest chapter in the state himself. Anyone know who either of the candidates in NC support for 08 or CRNC?????

Anonymous said...

The state chairman candidate rankings are a joke, it's a list of people he's heard of. Same for CRNC Chatter and any other blog, there has never once been an accurate power ranking of just about anything.

Anonymous said...

I'm not so sure we've heard the last of Keithocracy... he's certainly proven in the past that he can trigger chaos and angst at will. He's probably one of the smarter CR leaders in the country.

Anonymous said...

There is always going to be someone who is not happy with the rankings...get over it! This is not a democratic process!

Anonymous said...

PREACH IT this is not a democratic process!

THIS MY FRIENDS IS A KEITHOCRACY

Anonymous said...

This is worse than Chatter's rankings. Rather than cutting crap you're trowling it out...

First of all, I would like to applaud the courage of the anonymous ankle-biters criticizing this blog's picks. Your mothers all must be very proud of you, and quite frankly, I'm sure most of you are just mad that your names aren't on the list.

When I say something, I sign my name. It's an integral part of that 'ownership society'-rhetoric that you all I'm sure have at least claimed to advocate, judging from your commentary.

My first question: Has anyone offered a real critique of these rankings? Davidson is getting to play king-maker, and Amanda Hydro by all accounts has set up a 'Hydro-cracy' in Washington. His discussion of state chairs is spot-on: Smith is running, and Siler, Luna, and Hall—aside from sounding like a law firm—are all the rage. Harrison heads up California, and that state is too powerful not to wield great influence.

Now, I've just been a simple chapter chair, but I'm from Ohio and I do know what a smoke-filled room looks like. I wouldn't be surprised to see anyone mentioned here in one.

Let me add just a few more comments…

Marxism and Bloc Grants—Seriously, a sense of entitlement is the sign of a decline. This is guaranteed. Fundraising by individual chapters and state federations ought to be encouraged and fostered. But I’m also not an idiot, and your fiscal conservatism sounds shrill when you consider that these funds are not from the taxpayers. They are privately donated, and won’t come in again if they don’t bring results. The best way to do that is put a system in place where the grassroots have the money, and accountability is ensured without stepping on sovereignty, provided they pull their own weight. Lavishly spend we should not, but you’re comparing apples to oranges.

Let me say this about Brian Siler: He did not refuse field reps, and he is not the reason the Ohio GOP went to the slaughterhouse last fall. College Republicans can help voter turn-out, but don’t kid yourselves. Do you think you can overcome a 900,000 vote avalanche? I’ll tell you right now, Ohio had a great field program, great leadership at the state and chapter level, and great kids. We couldn’t do it, and you couldn’t either.

I say we de-centralize the whole damn thing, from Washington to Federations to Chapters.

I'm not a big name, I don’t have a blog, and I'm not a big deal. But I'll stand up to anyone in the whole damn country and tell them this: It's high time the people on the ground stopped fighting with each other, and got back to smashing left-wing scum the way we did before we'd ever heard of Truth Caucus.

Kocsan you're off on the wrong track entirely, we # have # been smashing left wing scum and have never wavered. Lecture yourself and get a grip.

Dear Anonymous (sorry if this accidentally includes you),

It's one thing to talk about being an activist, and it's another thing to actually be one. You sound like John Kerry.

Also, you've missed the point entirely. You might be 'smashing left-wing scum', but you still won't stand by what you say, hiding behind anonymity on a College Republican blog. If these are the kinds of cowards who'll stay in politics, it's no wonder the country is in such a mess.

I'm asking people to have two things: ideas and a backbone. If you have real critiques and real solutions to problems, I'd love to hear them. This is sadly typical of Republicans at all levels, who are ready to march off a cliff rather than justify their beliefs and implement real action.

Best,
Matt Kocsan

Erin Karriker won't win-Jon Thompson just keeps telling people that (including RSR) so he doesn't seem so weak in the state. All the real players in the state support Tyson-
