Wilkins issues second debate challenge to Kentucky opponent

Candidate for Kentucky State Chairman Morgan Wilkins has issued a second challenge to debate to her opponent, Louisville CR Chairman Michael Wray. Wray reportedly has yet to reply to the original challenge, issued almost a week ago, and his silence on the matter apparently has some of his own supporters asking questions. Wray entered the race with the blessing of Derek Hall, among others, after Wilkins kicked off her campaign in mid-January.

We will continue to follow this story as it develops, but we surmise that this move goes a long way to dispel any rumors of Wilkins dropping out of the race. It appears that she is in, and in to win. Kentucky will gather for its annual convention and elections on the weekend of April 13 and 14, a weekend that is already shaping up to be a busy one with a flurry of other state gatherings scheduled as well. A practical solution to ensure as many CRs as possible see the debate would be to hold it before or after the next KFCR Board Meeting, if anyone in Kentucky is listening.

I'm watching this race. Go Morgan! I started a pro-life group in '04 and have never heard an ounce of support from the CRs at the University of Louisville. I want a leader for the CRs that will encourage conservative principles.

I think the Wray kid is afraid that he will get owned in a debate. If he doesn't do it, Wilkins will need to let chapters know. Wray is probably in the lead with votes right now because he has the former state chair endorsing him, etc.

Wilkins...focus on the votes! Do everything you can for the votes!

The best way for Morgan to get votes is to get Wray in a debate and thrash him (whch he seems to be afraid of). The more this drags out the more and more he looks like he is just scared of her.

I know Derek Hall reads this. Hall, talk to Wray, why is he scared to debate?

what exactly would the topics be of a debate?

If you are a chairman of your CR chapter and reading this after endorsing Wray..I think you should change your mind. We don't need an indecisive leader!

Morgan's opposition frequently claims that "Morgan has a lot she can bring to the table, but not as Chairman." A debate would be a great time for the opposition to confront Morgan with some of their concerns and allow her to respond. Wray needs to respond soon. He may have a legit reason for ignoring the challenge but until he tell us we will just assume he is a coward.

so it really seems like if a debate occurs it would only benefit Morgan... what kind of candidate that's leading would take on a debate you can't benefit from?

A University of Louisville College Republican offered today to host a debate on his blog, www.bluegrassredstate.blogspot.com.

Maybe this will be a less scary way for Michael Wray to debate me.

For now, we are awaiting Wray's response.

Morgan,
I still don't see why he would ever agree to a debate. From what I've seen he wouldn't benefit from one, it if anything could just hurt him. Keep issuing requests and they will probably fall on silent ears.

Why wouldnt he have anything to benefit from a debate? Becuase his ideas and abilities are not as good.

no because he can just coast his way to victory, he has the support of Hall and numerous state chairs. He just needs to stick to visiting chapters and making sure his support doesn't abandon him. A debate will only give Morgan a forum to address his charges and watch his reaction as most of them are proven false.

Don't get me wrong i think Wray looks like and probably is a tool, and i'm simply playing some devils advocate as I like to do all the time around here. I don't really have anyone I'm supporting here as i don't know either of them, plus i'm not from KY

when I said state chairs I meant chapter chairs*

coast to victory?? hahaha. I think you are going to see a much different situation.

It will be an exciting election and I'm looking forward to Wilkins winning.

Morgan and her supporters need to listen carefully.

Morgan Wilkins is not the ideal candidate for this position. Her horrible past and unwise choices make her incompetent to represent Kentucky. This state is home to national representative like Lincoln, Duncan, McConnell, and Clay. The last thing we need is a controversial fool to represent this party. It is unfortunate enough that some members embrace her as a leader when her past is clearly visible. She is not a good student (attends a community college) and is not an ideal representative. Kentucky deserves much better. Only the ignorant would fail to realize this.

What is there to debate? According to Morgan's website, her platform is nothing new. She is riding the same agenda that was provided at last year's state convention (which she did not attend). You people really need to not take her word in anything she says. The chapters she leads do not exist...she is not even a student there. And my big concern; who is raising her child as she traces the country trying to get her name out? Sounds like poor priorities to me. Get an education and take care of your kid and let go of the ego.
