As the CRNC prepares to hold a no-holds barred brawl in Colorado, a couple of things are worthy of mention. First of all, the state chairmen who did not make it to the meeting may have an impact on the amendment votes. Last I knew, chairs were going to be able to call in to the meeting, but I am not positive on this. If they are not able to be present in some shape, form, or fashion, the outcome could differ. Secondly, watch out to see who gets on stage with Charlie Smith, as this will be very telling. There is disdain on both sides that someone is trying to peel off both Establishment and Reform figures for their ticket, and there is doubt about the verity and integrity of the unity platform. Finally, keep an eye on Brent Ludeman and Brian Siler. At some point, so long as Smith is in the race, one of them is going to have to bow out for the reformers to have a shot. This will be interesting for sure, and I will keep updated as best as possible on RSR.
For those who don't care so much about the happenings in Denver, there are several football and basketball contests worth tuning in for. The SEC, ACC, Big XII, and Big East (sort of) are playing their championship games today, and these four games have big BCS implications. Florida plays Arkansas at 6 PM EST on CBS tonight for the SEC title in Atlanta's Georgia Dome, and at 8 PM EST on ABC in Arrowhead Stadium, the Big XII is up for grabs as Nebraska and Oklahoma face off. The Big East's de facto championship is also tonight at 7 PM EST on ESPN, when West Virginia will meet up with Rutgers. If Rutgers loses, Louisville would slide back into the picture for the Big East's automatic BCS bid. This afternoon brings the ACC's title contest in the form of Wake Forest versus Georgia Tech in Jacksonville at 1 PM on ABC. The annual Army-Navy game is also taking place today, and USC will play at UCLA later tonight.
In NCAA Men's Basketball, #1 (for now) Ohio State will try to bounce back from their loss to North Carolina as they host Valparaiso at 4 PM on local Columbus 10 (CBS). One interesting side note to this game is that the brother of Ohio State recruit Jon Diebler will be playing for Valparaiso. Jake Diebler, a sophomore at Valpo, won an OHSAA Championship two years ago at Upper Sandusky HS with his father, Keith, coaching, and younger brother, Jon, as a fellow starter. They are both phenomenally gifted players, but Jon will get to watch his brother today in the opposing team's uniform. By the way, Jon is also making a run this year at the all-time OHSAA scoring record, currently held by former Buckeye Jay Burson. He kicked off his season last night with a 40-point effort in an Upper Sandusky win and needs roughly 800 points to surpass Burson. If you live in North Central Ohio, make every effort to go see Upper play this season as Jon Diebler is a very exciting player to watch. North Carolina faces rival Kentucky today in Chapel Hill, and it is on CBS at 1 PM nationally.
