I have been informed that Justin Jordan, interim Texas Federation of College Republicans Vice-Chairman, is indeed facing opposition in the upcoming January 27 special election. Current Chairman of the Collin County Community College Republicans Ryan Murphy (extremely long title there) is also running in the special election and has a Facebook group up as well. Membership of the groups is similar in size; the biggest difference is that Jordan's group has endorsements posted as well as a platform. Murphy's chapter has been involved in TFCR since 2003, and he is also the current Area Coordinator in his region for TFCR. Here is an excerpt from his letter to members of TFCR:
"This semester has been a busy one for my chapter and we've accomplished several things I didn't expect at the start of it all. We've beaten fund raising goals, membership goals, and provide a strong conservative voice on campus and the community.
I expect to bring this level of performance to the state level by serving our organization in the crucial position of Vice-Chairman."
TFCR Chairman Eliza Vielma has not endorsed either of the candidates in the race, staying impartial (the way it should be!), but the man Jordan and Murphy are vying to replace, former Vice-Chairman Jason Fite, has apparently done so. Tonight, Justin Jordan reported the endorsement of Fite, but this race is definitely not over yet. The vote will take place on Ryan Murphy's home turf, at Collin County CC, so the home-field advantage is definitely in play. We will keep you posted on this developing race.
-One final note: Keep an eye out in the coming days for exclusive interviews from newly elected College Republican Federation of Virginia Chairman Jarrett Ray and candidate for Chairman of the Michigan Federation of College Republicans Steve Japinga, among others.
